Three Peak Cabin

Living in Washington, the transition from fall to winter, especially after daylight savings, is especially tough. The sun sets at 4:30pm, the rain feels relentless and everything is just cold and damp all the time. But having lived here my whole life, I’ve learned to love and appreciate these quieter moments. The kind of moments that make me feel like I’m the main character in a brooding indie film - curled up on the couch with blankets, a warm cup of coffee in hand, the crackling fire in the background and staring out at the window watching the rain fall and contemplating where I am in life. (You know exactly what I’m talking about!). And so what better place to relax, disconnect and have my main character moment than in a quaint cabin the woods?

So Cameron and I, plus our pup Korben, headed out for a 2-night stay at Three Peak Cabin this past week and it was the perfect little getaway. We played games, read and even got a little work done while there (thank you Wi-Fi).

Clear views of Mt. Index from the riverbank, just a stone’s throw from the cabin’s doorstep.

Three Peak Cabin sits tucked away on the banks of the South Skykomish River, nestled between towering red cedars and western hemlocks for a feeling of total disconnection from reality and the never-ending to do lists. Located in Index, Washington, this off-the-beaten path cabin is the perfect escape for a moody PNW experience.

Owners, Julie and Dan, put special touches throughout the home. Everything from holiday decorations, photo books of the cabin and past guest reviews on the coffee table, and photographs on the walls that speak to their family’s history and connections to this area.

The cabin is best suited for a small group (max 4) but would also be a great place for solo travelers too. Equipped with Wi-Fi, this is the perfect place to switch up your remote work location or start that creative project you keep putting off.

The string lights make the cabin glow from the river banks, day or night.

The cabin is equipped with everything you need - including firewood, extra bedding and toiletries, books, coffee and even slippers! But by far the selling point of this place is the view. Just 50 steps outside the front door, you have direct access to the river. From the riverbank, you have clear and unobstructed mountain views to the west and to the east. Western Washington recently went through some major flooding, so the river was high and flowing fast. But seeing the turquoise water every time I glanced out the cabin windows, and hearing the sound of the water swiftly moving by was one of my favorite things about our stay. We even built an outdoor fire during a break in the clouds to sit outside and watch the world go by.

Three Peak Cabin is located in a small, private community. The area was very quiet and we felt super secluded. What a place to have coffee in the morning! The cabin is also pet friendly.

The kitchen includes an oven, 4-burner stove, fridge, toaster, microwave and Keurig coffee maker, not to mention, pots/pans, dinnerware and even tupperware, in case you cooked too much and want to store leftovers. They also provided popcorn and chocolate!

The cabin has 1 bedroom and 1 bath - but there is a sleeper sofa in the living room, so 4 people could sleep here comfortably. The interior at Three Peak is stylish and comfortable, especially the bed. Both nights I fell asleep comfortably listening to the sound of the rain falling down on the metal roof. Note: there are trains nearby that run throughout the day/night - I’d recommend bringing ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.

Stacks on stacks of firewood are provided for guests. Build a fire inside to warm up and for cabin vibes, or build your own outdoors in the fire pit adjacent to the river.

On our last morning, snow had joined the rain and two fell down strongly in unison until we packed up and headed out. I can’t imagine how peaceful it would be to wake up to a blanket of fresh snow here! After brooding some more by the window with my morning coffee (hello, still having my main character moment), we cleaned up and said goodbye to Three Peak Cabin (for now).

Canyon Creek Falls are just a short walk from the cabin.

We had such a great time and can’t wait to return. Thank you Julie and Dan for hosting us and letting us capture your amazing place!
